Sri Lanka has unveiled its 15-member squad for the 2026 Asian Games, opting to maintain the core group that competed in the Women’s Asia Cup while making four strategic roster adjustments. Led once again by veteran captain Chamari Athapaththu, the side heads into the tournament looking to bounce back from their performance in the recent Asia Cup final, where they were restricted to 111 runs in response to India’s 183/5.
The Meepage returns to the fold after previously appearing in the series against Pakistan in August. To accommodate these inclusions, Vishmi Gunaratne, Nilakshika Silva, Chetana Vimukthi, and Dewmi Vihanga have been omitted. Notably, the departure of Nilakshika Silva removes the team’s third-highest run-scorer from the Asia Cup, while Chetana Vimukthi exits after claiming three wickets over three appearances.
Sri Lanka enters the Asian Games following a strong run in the Asia Cup, where they dominated Group B with an undefeated record before overcoming Pakistan in the semi-finals. However, their momentum was halted by a 72-run defeat to India in the title match. The team is now shifting focus to their opening fixture of the Asian Games, scheduled for September 18, 2026. They will face Malaysia Women in the third quarter-final held at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
The full squad for the tournament includes Chamari Athapaththu, Imesha Dulani, Sanjana Kavindi, Hansima Karunaratne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Anushka Sanjeewani, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Nimasha Meepage, Sugandika Dasanayaka, Rashmika Sewwandi, Chamudi Praboda, Mithali Ayodhya, and Kawya Kavindi.
