The board of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is set to meet within the next few days to address corruption allegations connecting a team player to illegal betting operations. Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise stated it will take necessary steps to fully investigate the matter.
The controversy stems from an investigative report by the Tehelka website, which alleged that a CSK cricketer passed insider information to a former Delhi first-class player with six domestic appearances. The former domestic cricketer reportedly sold those details to London-based bookies for Rs 60 lakh per match during the 2025 season. Speaking to an undercover reporter, the individual claimed he earned Rs 3 crore from trading confidential data and boasted he could arrange information for the 2026 IPL season if his insider was acquired at the auction for Rs 1 crore with a 90 percent guarantee, though the target player ultimately went unsold.
Addressing the allegations, an unnamed CSK official confirmed that executive leadership will convene prior to the franchise’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 25. “We have our Annual General Meeting (AGM) coming up. Our board will meet ahead of the AGM. We will discuss the matter,” the official stated, while emphasizing that the circulating reports remain unverified at this stage.
The undercover investigation also alleged that the source provided confidential details concerning a Delhi Premier League (DPL) franchise, which reportedly aligned with events during an August 3 match. In response, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) labeled the claims unverified and unsubstantiated, though it noted that advice has been sought from competent authorities. The report did not reveal the name of the CSK player involved. The franchise previously served a two-year suspension from the IPL after a key representative of its ownership group was implicated in illegal betting activities. The report also notes that the franchise said it would initiate appropriate measures to come to the bottom of the case, claiming that it has zero tolerance for corruption in the game.
