Mohit Sharma is set to join the Chennai Super Kings as the franchise’s new bowling coach, taking over from Eric Simmons. Simmons previously held the position under former head coach Stephen Fleming.
Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Mohit is the primary choice for the role. Zaheer Khan is currently finalising his support staff team and has zeroed in on the 38-year-old former pacer for the bowling coach assignment.
Mohit recently featured in the IPL during the 2025 season before officially announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in December of last year. During his playing career, he appeared in 48 matches for CSK in the IPL alongside 10 further appearances across two seasons in the Champions League T20. He also represented India in eight T20 Internationals.
Meanwhile, the franchise and Zaheer are yet to confirm their batting coach for the 2027 season. Michael Hussey had previously served in that capacity, with three or four candidates currently under consideration and a final choice still pending. It is learnt that there are three or four names in conversation with a final decision still to be taken.
CSK secured the last of their five IPL titles in 2023 but missed out on the playoffs in the subsequent three seasons. The recent downturn prompted the franchise to part ways with long-standing head coach Stephen Fleming earlier this year.
