The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially pushed back the deadline for IPL franchises to finalize their player retention lists. Originally set for November 15, the cutoff was extended by two days to November 17 in a communique issued to all teams on Monday, November 2. The adjustment was reportedly made to avoid a scheduling conflict with the India-New Zealand ODI match taking place on November 15 at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Despite this shift in the retention window, the BCCI has confirmed that the upcoming mini-auction will proceed as planned. The event is scheduled to be hosted in Goa on December 16. While there is another ODI scheduled for that same day—India versus Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru—the board has provided no indication that the auction date will be moved. However, the BCCI has given no indication of a change to the auction schedule, with the latest communique reiterating December 16 as the date for the event.
The administrative timeline leading up to the auction is now set. Following the close of the retention process on November 17, the player registration window will remain open until November 23. Participating franchises have until December 1 to submit their final list of player preferences for the auction pool. The official auction register, which will detail the specific player sets available for selection, is slated for release on December 3.
Player registration for the event officially commenced on November 2. Teams are currently in the process of deciding which players to retain for their squads and which to release ahead of the high-profile auction proceedings in Goa next month.
