Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has rejoined Delhi Capitals, stepping into the role of spin bowling coach. His appointment follows a major overhaul of the franchise’s backroom setup, joining a revamped support staff that includes head coach Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Yuvraj Singh, and fast bowling coach Chaminda Vaas.
Mishra boasts extensive Indian Premier League experience, having featured in 162 matches across 16 seasons since the tournament’s inception in 2008. The veteran spinner, who last played in 2024, spent 10 seasons with the Delhi franchise when it was known as the Delhi Daredevils. Over his IPL career, he took 174 wickets, recorded best bowling figures of 5/17, and remains the only bowler to claim three IPL hat-tricks, doing so for Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. Notably, new assistant coach Yuvraj Singh is one of only two players to claim two IPL hat-tricks, both coming in 2009. Having played 162 matches across 16 seasons, starting all the way back in the inaugural edition in 2008, mishra has rich IPL experience. He started out at the same franchise – called Delhi Daredevils then – and played 10 of his seasons with them. Each for different teams – Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013, he also holds the distinction of being the only player with three hattricks in the tournament’s history.
Mishra’s guidance will directly benefit Delhi’s spin department, including newly acquired left-arm wrist spinner Zeeshan Ansari, who arrived from Sunrisers Hyderabad in a trade that sent T Natarajan in the opposite direction. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed are also set to gain from his mentorship if retained for the upcoming season.
