Essex County Cricket Club has confirmed that 24-year-old batter Robin Das has been charged with two counts of rape. The professional cricketer, who has made 60 senior appearances for the county since his 2020 debut, was formally charged on July 23, 2026. He is now set to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, October 9.
The Metropolitan Police stated that the charges stem from an arrest made on August 27, 2025. This investigation relates to reports of an incident in Brixton involving a woman on March 30, 2024. Authorities confirmed that the complainant is continuing to receive support from specialist officers as the legal process moves forward.
Following the charges, which were brought just two days after his final appearance of the 2026 season in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on July 21, the club placed Das under an immediate and ongoing suspension. Essex officials stated that they have remained in contact with the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Professional Cricketers’ Association, and the Cricket Regulator regarding the situation.
In an official statement, the club emphasized that the alleged incident occurred outside of club activities. Essex noted that they maintain strict safeguarding and human resources procedures, requiring all employees to uphold high standards of professional conduct. Given that the matter is currently subject to legal proceedings, the club stated they are unable to provide further commentary.
Throughout his career, Das has recorded nine first-class appearances, 29 games in 50-over cricket, and 24 T20 matches. His professional experience includes playing for the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League. The report also notes that the club will continue to follow all appropriate legal processes and guidance.
