Lewis Ferguson, the 27-year-old Scotland midfielder, has confirmed that a transfer away from Bologna never neared completion during the recent summer window. Despite circulating reports of interest from his boyhood club, Rangers, Ferguson maintained that a move was not imminent. But the Scotland midfielder, 27, does retain aspirations of an Ibrox return at some stage in his career.
Reflecting on his career path, the midfielder noted, “I had a long think after the World Cup about my future and I was a little bit unsure but nothing was ever that close.” He emphasized that while he remains committed to his current path, the ambition of returning to Ibrox one day remains, stating: “Rangers was a dream – that has not changed.”
Ferguson, who was released by Rangers at age 14, built his career through Hamilton Academical and Aberdeen before moving to Serie A in 2022. He has served as Bologna captain since 2023, notably leading the team to a historic 2025 Coppa Italia title.
Despite his leadership role, Ferguson saw his opportunities diminish last season, recording only 17 league starts under manager Vincenzo Italiano. His future continues to be a subject of speculation as he navigates these tactical shifts in Italy.
