Major champions Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cameron Smith are assessing their options after LIV Golf initiated bankruptcy protection proceedings last week. The breakaway organization is currently attempting to establish an entirely new competitive circuit for the upcoming year.
As the PGA Tour progresses with structural changes planned for 2028, chief executive Brian Rolapp has offered no assurances that prominent LIV players will be allowed back. “In terms of where we are today, we are not currently contemplating a returning member program like the one you saw in January,” Rolapp stated.
The January arrangement allowed Brooks Koepka to rejoin the US tour, but the same terms were declined by DeChambeau, Rahm, and Smith. Reflecting on his own situation, Rahm admitted he is unsure about what lies ahead. “There’s a long legal process they have to go through before a lot of things fall into place,” the Spaniard remarked ahead of his appearance at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. “I really can’t give you an answer right now.”
With LIV Golf’s future in transition, the sport’s biggest names face significant uncertainty, while the PGA Tour remains focused on its independent roadmap without creating instant avenues for returning defectors.
