European football’s governing body, UEFA, confirmed on Thursday that it will maintain its boycott of both men’s and women’s World Cups. The decision remains in place even after FIFA officially withdrew its proposal to open competitions to private investment.
In an official statement, UEFA emphasized that its member associations had established clear conditions regarding their non-participation in FIFA events. The organization noted that these specific requirements have not been fulfilled.
UEFA explained that its stance required two actions: the withdrawal of proposals to sell off major competitions and firm assurances that similar attempts to alter the game would not be repeated. According to the governing body, these conditions have not been met.
