Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is poised to depart the club after a single season, with a £52m transfer fee agreed upon with Saudi Pro-League side Al-Qadsiah. The Dutch international, who arrived from AC Milan last summer for £46.5m, is expected to finalize the move shortly.
The 28-year-old was absent from Manchester City’s primary training session on Thursday as he nears a switch to the Saudi club, which is currently under the management of former Liverpool, Celtic, and Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers. Reijnders’ departure appears to be a key component of a broader restructuring of City’s midfield, a process that also involves ongoing uncertainty regarding the future of Rodri, the 2026 World Cup player of the tournament, and reported interest in Chelsea’s Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Reijnders’ tenure at the Etihad Stadium saw him make a promising start, though he ultimately struggled to exert a consistent influence during what proved to be Pep Guardiola’s final season at the helm. Across all competitions, he recorded seven goals in 47 appearances for the club.
Internationally, Reijnders represented the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, where he featured in three matches. He started in the group stage fixtures against Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia, though he was sidelined for the last 32 clash against Morocco, a match the Dutch side ultimately lost following a penalty shootout.
Although Reijnders made a bright start to his City career, he struggled to make a significant impact in what turned out to be Pep Guardiola’s last season at the club, scoring seven goals in 47 appearances.
