Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has publicly called on the club’s leadership to secure further signings before the summer transfer window concludes. Carrick, who initially stepped in as interim manager following the departure of Ruben Amorim after a difficult start to the 2025-26 campaign, was later appointed permanently after guiding the team to UEFA Champions League qualification.
Emphasizing the need for depth to challenge for major honors, Carrick told BBC Sport, “We want more, we need more.” The club has already bolstered its midfield ranks by acquiring Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, moves necessitated by the departure of Casemiro as a free agent. Additionally, the squad added goalkeeper Karl Darlow as cover for Senne Lammens, following the loan of Altay Bayindir to Celta Vigo.
Transfer activity remains a priority as the club explores further options. Reports indicate a strong interest in Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall, while the team has also been linked with Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, though negotiations for the midfielder have yet to yield significant progress.
The squad also sees the return of forward Marcus Rashford, who recently completed a successful loan spell at Barcelona where he secured a LaLiga title. Addressing questions regarding Rashford’s reintegration into the United setup, Carrick provided insights to The Athletic, confirming the forward is being factored into the upcoming season’s plans as the club aims to maintain its competitive momentum.
He claims that the club needs to be pushing to challenge on all fronts, and a few more signings could help that cause.
