England manager Thomas Tuchel faces a significant personnel reshuffle for the upcoming Nations League window, with five players withdrawing from his initial squad selection. Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, and Marcus Rashford have all been ruled out of the upcoming international fixtures. To compensate for these absences, Tuchel has drafted Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Everton’s James Garner into the group, with both players scheduled to report on Tuesday.
The withdrawal of 24-year-old Cole Palmer comes after he was recently recalled to the national side following his controversial exclusion from the World Cup squad. Tuchel had previously emphasized that Palmer had a point to prove and needed to step up to justify his nomination, though he is now sidelined with a minor injury. Meanwhile, the Manchester United pair of Mainoo and Rashford pulled out following medical assessments by their club after being substituted during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice is also unavailable after playing the full 90 minutes in his club’s 3-0 loss to Brighton, and Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento has withdrawn after limited playing time this season. Morgan Gibbs-White, 26, brings six international caps of experience to the side, having narrowly missed the initial squad selection.
The Three Lions are preparing for a busy schedule of Nations League matches, starting with a high-profile fixture against World Cup winners Spain at Wembley on 26 September. The team will subsequently travel to face the Czech Republic on 29 September and Croatia on 3 October, before concluding the break with a return match against the Czechs at home on 6 October. The report also notes that they were assessed by their club after being taken off in the closing stages of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham.
