A United States District Court in New York has dismissed a £15m ($20m) damages claim brought by British doubles player Tara Moore against the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Moore, 34, initiated the lawsuit following a doping case that resulted in a four-year suspension. As a consequence of these findings, Tara Moore will be banned from playing until the start of the 2028 season.
The Legal Argument
- Moore argued the WTA failed to warn players about the risk of consuming contaminated meat during a tournament in Colombia.
- She has consistently denied intentional doping throughout the legal proceedings.
- The court rejected the motion and directed the clerk to close the matter entirely.
Speaking to Sport following the ruling, Moore described the experience as a “nightmare” and claimed, “It just shows how broken the anti-doping system is in tennis.”
