2027 Cricket World Cup Schedule Features India

Published: October 1, 2026, 8:08 pm

The International Cricket Council officially revealed the roadmap for the 2027 Cricket World Cup on Thursday, confirming a blockbuster group stage draw. India finds itself positioned alongside reigning titleholders Australia and their long-time rivals, Pakistan. The tournament, which is co-hosted by Zimbabwe, Namibia, and South Africa, kicks off on October 4, 2027, with the championship final scheduled for November 27.

High-Stakes Opening Fixtures

  • Cape Town will host a rematch of the 2023 final between India and Australia on October 7.
  • The highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is slated for Johannesburg just three days later, on October 10.
  • The encounter with Pakistan at the Wanderers Stadium, the largest venue in the competition, is expected to generate significant demand for spectator tickets.

The structure of the 2027 event begins with a preliminary phase designed to trim the field by eliminating two of the three bottom-ranked sides. Subsequently, the remaining 12 nations will be divided into two round-robin groups. Progression to the Super Seven stage will be awarded to the top three teams from each group, along with the single best-performing fourth-placed side. This round leads directly into the semi-finals and the concluding title match.

Geopolitical friction has limited bilateral cricket exchanges between India and Pakistan, restricting their head-to-head appearances to ICC sanctioned tournaments since a 2012 series featuring three ODIs and two T20s. Despite these logistical constraints, the rivalry remains fierce, even as India maintains a dominant historical record against Pakistan. Statistically, India has secured victories in all eight of their previous Cricket World Cup meetings and has claimed eight wins across nine attempts in T20 World Cup fixtures. Group A is rounded out by Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and an additional qualifier, setting the stage for a competitive qualification path. Because of political tensions between the two countries, India and Pakistan have only played each other in ICC events since Pakistan toured India for three one-day internationals and two Twenty20 internationals in December 2012.
