England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been officially charged by the Cricket Regulator following an incident in Derby during the early hours of August 23, 2026. The case is now set to be heard by the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication.

“Following a Cricket Regulator investigation, Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, in relation to events in Derby in the early hours of the morning on August 23 2026,” the Regulator said in a statement on Friday. Regulation 3.2 states that “no participant may conduct themself in a manner, do any act or make any omission at any time which is improper or which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”

The incident occurred while Carse was in Derby with his Durham teammates after their County Championship victory over Derbyshire. Social media footage showed him in handcuffs outside a nightclub. He was initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly but was later de-arrested. Derbyshire Police also investigated an assault allegation but closed the inquiry last month without taking further action.

An ECB spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the Cricket Regulator’s decision to charge Brydon Carse. Brydon now has the opportunity to respond through the established process. As we do not wish to prejudge the outcome, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.” Following the incident, Carse was dropped for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s, missed the T20Is and ODIs against Sri Lanka, and was omitted from this month’s ODI tri-series squad in Pakistan.
