Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly been named in Portugal’s preliminary squad for upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Wales. The final roster for these matches is expected to be announced on November 6.
Reports from Saudi outlet Arriyadiyah suggest that the forward has been included in the pre-selection process. Portugal is scheduled to host Denmark in Braga on November 14 before traveling to face Wales three days later, having already secured a spot in the quarter-finals.
This potential return follows the completion of a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine handed down by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The sanctions were issued after Ronaldo left the training camp in Copenhagen on September 30, and the ban officially expired on October 30.
The controversy originated in Oslo after the forward remained on the bench for the full duration of a 2-1 victory over Norway on September 27. Ronaldo had warmed up for much of the second half but was not introduced to the match. Previously, he had captained the national side to a 1-0 win against Wales. Following the October 4 victory over Norway, head coach Jorge Jesus noted that Ronaldo would be eligible for selection provided he was active for Al-Nassr and willing to rejoin the squad. It has been reported that the FPF requested the availability of both Ronaldo and João Félix from Al-Nassr. Then 90 minutes on the bench in Oslo, the Nations League brought a start and the armband in the 1-0 win over Wales. Jesus also set a condition: Ronaldo would be called up if he is playing for Al-Nassr and wants to return.
Ronaldo’s 2026 campaign has been significant, featuring 234 career caps, 146 goals, and 46 assists. During the 2026 World Cup, he started all five of Portugal’s matches, scoring three times including a brace against Uzbekistan and a goal against Croatia in the round of 32. He holds the distinction of being the first player to score in six separate World Cups, boasting 11 total goals in the tournament—two more than Eusébio. Despite these achievements, Portugal’s tournament run ended with a 1-0 loss to Spain in the round of 16. At the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo started all five of Portugal’s matches and scored three times, twice in the 5-0 win over Uzbekistan and the third, against Croatia in the round of 32, was his first in a World Cup kno.
