Naman Dhir has been named as the replacement for Washington Sundar in India’s squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies. Sundar, currently competing at the Asian Games in Japan, was withdrawn from the side to ensure he gains vital red-ball experience ahead of the challenging two-Test series in New Zealand, which begins in Wellington on November 19. Selectors have prioritized his preparation for the longer format, especially with the domestic Ranji Trophy season opening on October 11. The selectors want Washington to get some red-ball cricket under him before the tough two-Test series that begins in Wellington on November 19, with the Ranji Trophy season set to commence on October 11.

Dhir, who previously debuted in ODIs in Trivandrum, enters the international T20 setup for the first time. The batter has a solid domestic record, accumulating 1,222 runs across 61 T20 matches at a strike rate of 156.26, while also claiming eight wickets. During the 2026 IPL season, he played all 14 matches for the Mumbai Indians, contributing 318 runs at a strike rate of 147.22, a run that featured two half-centuries.

In other squad updates, fast bowler Anshul Kamboj has been called up for the third ODI in New Chandigarh. He replaces Prasidh Krishna, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury and will undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Although Kamboj earned his Test debut in Manchester last year, he remains uncapped in limited-overs international formats. He is currently involved in the India A squad for the unofficial Test series against Australia A in Puducherry.
