Ramesh Powar has officially joined the men’s selection committee, filling the vacancy created by the departure of Ajit Agarkar. The appointment was confirmed following a selection process overseen by the Cricket Advisory Committee, which included Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape. During interviews held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on October 15, the committee unanimously recommended Powar for the role.

Pragyan Ojha will now lead the panel as chairperson. As a former India left-arm spinner who had been serving in an interim capacity, Ojha’s promotion to the chair is based on his seniority, determined by the number of Test matches played. The selection committee also includes Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, and Ajay Ratra.

Powar, who represented India in two Tests and 31 ODIs between 2004 and 2007, brings significant experience to the panel, having previously served in various coaching capacities, including head coach of the Indian Women’s team. Other candidates interviewed for the position included Mumbai’s Wasim Jaffer and Salil Ankola, as well as Baroda’s Connor Williams and Jacob Martin.

In an official statement, the BCCI acknowledged Agarkar’s tenure, commending his “commitment, conviction and contribution” to the role. His term saw notable achievements, including three ICC titles, two Asia Cup championships, and two gold medals at the Asian Games.
