Sebastien Pocognoli has been named the new head coach of the Scotland men’s team, signing an initial two-year contract. The 39-year-old Belgian succeeds Steve Clarke, who concluded a record-breaking seven-year spell in charge of the national side.
Pocognoli arrives with a reputation for implementing an attractive, eye-catching style of play, having previously led Union Saint-Gilloise to a title in his home country. Most recently, the former left-back served as manager of Monaco, though he was dismissed from that role in June after an eight-month tenure, leaving him available for the Scottish Football Association.
As he steps into the role, Pocognoli faces the significant challenge of maintaining Scotland’s recent success in reaching major tournaments. He is expected to build upon Clarke’s foundation while simultaneously overseeing a transition in tactical approach and a necessary refresh of the playing squad.
