Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror has been signed by Surrey for their final six matches of the 2026 County Championship. The 26-year-old all-rounder, who bats in the middle order and bowls left-arm spin, joins the squad as Surrey currently sits seventh in the Division One table with one win and two losses.
Surrey will be without Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence, creating a vacancy for Lomror. Lawrence has been recalled to the England squad for the Pakistan Tests, while Jacks continues to recover from an ankle injury. At Surrey, Lomror will reunite with his Rajasthan teammate, Rahul Chahar.
Lomror brings significant experience, having played 63 first-class matches with an average of 42.62, including an unbeaten triple-century and 62 wickets with one five-wicket haul. Last season, he was Rajasthan’s second-highest run-getter in the Ranji Trophy, averaging 48.66 with two centuries.
Regarding his move, Lomror stated: “I’m happy to join Surrey for the remainder of the season. Playing in the County Championship is a huge opportunity for me to challenge myself in a new environment and learn from an experienced group.”
Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of men’s cricket, welcomed the addition: “With the busy schedule of international, franchise and domestic cricket around the world, I’m pleased to add Mahipal Lomror to our available squad of players. With the loss of Lawrence and Jacks’ ability to bowl spin, it was important to add a batter who can bowl some overs of spin when required for the final stage of the season. We look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room ahead of this week’s match with Nottinghamshire.”
