Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara has identified Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as the overwhelming favorite to secure a fourth Premier League Golden Boot. O’Hara, who represented Spurs between 2006 and 2011, suggests the Norwegian marksman faces minimal competition in his pursuit of matching the record currently held by Thierry Henry and Mohamed Salah.
Since joining the English top flight from Borussia Dortmund four years ago, Haaland has been prolific. He set a record with 36 goals during his debut campaign, which culminated in a continental treble for City. He followed that with a second consecutive Golden Boot and league title, contributing to a historic four-peat and a sixth league crown in seven years for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Although Liverpool ended Manchester City’s league dominance in 2025—a season that also saw Haaland’s streak of Golden Boots interrupted—the striker reclaimed the award last term. Despite Guardiola concluding his 10-year tenure at the Etihad, Haaland netted 27 goals to secure his third Golden Boot. In that race, Brentford’s Thiago finished as the runner-up with 22 strikes.
Haaland, now 26, enters the new season following a standout performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. He began his tournament with a brace in a 4-1 win over Iraq and added another double in a 3-2 victory against Senegal, helping Norway reach the knockout stages. After missing a 4-1 group-stage defeat to France, he returned to score a late winner in a 2-1 Round of 32 triumph over Cote d’Ivoire.
The striker’s most notable impact came in the Round of 16, where he scored twice in the final 11 minutes to lead Norway to a 2-1 victory over Brazil, marking the Selecao’s earliest exit since 1990. However, his World Cup journey concluded in the quarter-finals, where Stale Solbakken’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat to England in extra time.
