The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a formal review meeting for the national women’s cricket team in Guwahati on Monday. The session was led by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and attended by key figures including captain Harmanpreet Kaur, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, and head coach Amol Muzumdar. Although the outcome, if any, is not yet clear, it is unlikely that there were any major decisions at the meeting. However, unlike in the case of Agarkar, there is no controversy here.
This evaluation comes after a productive period for the squad, which saw a resurgence following a difficult outing at the T20 World Cup in England earlier this summer. Since that setback, the team claimed two significant continental honors, securing titles at the Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan. Despite speculation regarding leadership changes in some circles, there are no immediate indications of a captaincy transition, and Harmanpreet Kaur remains firmly in her role. But no such move appears likely at this stage, there have been calls in some quarters for a change in captaincy.
The meeting structure mirrored recent discussions involving the men’s side, though it remained unclear if chief selector Amita Sharma was in attendance. Regardless, attention now turns to upcoming selection duties. Amita Sharma and the selection committee are expected to convene as early as Tuesday, October 6, to finalize the roster for a historic six-match white-ball series against Zimbabwe, marking the first time the African nation has toured India for a bilateral engagement. The discussions would have been on the way forward, with the team having done well lately.
The upcoming tour is scheduled to span two weeks and features three T20Is followed by three ODIs. The T20 encounters are set to take place in Raipur on October 16, 18, and 20, while the ODI series—part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025-29—will be hosted in Vadodara on October 23, 26, and 28.
