Paul Walter emerged as the decisive figure at The Kia Oval, delivering a standout performance of 80 runs from 46 balls to guide the Manchester Super Giants into the men’s Hundred final. The Super Giants secured a 20-run victory over Sunrisers Leeds in the Eliminator, setting up a championship clash against the Trent Rockets at Lord’s this Sunday.
Sent in to bat, the Super Giants overcame an early setback when Tim Seifert was dismissed on the second ball of the match. Walter remained composed, anchoring the innings alongside Jos Buttler, who contributed 33 from 20 deliveries in a 57-run partnership. The momentum shifted significantly when Walter was joined by Heinrich Klaasen, with the duo putting together a blistering 114-run stand off just 52 balls. Walter struck eight sixes during his knock, while Klaasen added four in his aggressive 63-run performance off 26 balls before falling to Nathan Ellis.
The Super Giants finished their 100-ball allocation with an imposing total of 186-4. In response, the Sunrisers struggled to maintain the required pace during their chase. Despite boasting a formidable top order, they were restricted to 166-7 under the pressure of the mammoth target.
England seamer Josh Tongue spearheaded the bowling attack, dismantling the Sunrisers’ lineup with an impressive 4-26. Tongue claimed the wickets of tournament-leading run-scorer Mitch Marsh for 10 and captain Zak Crawley for six. The Sunrisers’ middle order collapsed under the combined pressure of Tongue and Sonny Baker, who finished with figures of 2-39. Opener Ryan Rickelton remained at the crease, finishing the innings stranded on 54 not out.
