BCCI Announces IPL Governing Council Elections for September 18 Annual General Meeting

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially commenced the election process for two seats on the IPL Governing Council. Electoral Officer AK Joti issued the formal notification under Rule 28 of the BCCI Constitution, confirming that the voting will take place during the board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 18.

Under the current constitutional framework, the IPL Governing Council consists of seven members, including four representatives from the general body. Two of these four positions are subject to election at the annual meeting. The incumbents currently holding these seats are IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, representing Himachal Pradesh, and member Khairul Jamal Majumdar from Mizoram. Both officials are anticipated to be re-elected unopposed, as the BCCI constitution mandates a one-year term for these specific roles.

The administrative timeline for the election requires candidates to file their nominations on September 9 or 10. Following a formal scrutiny period, the final list of confirmed contestants will be The remaining two general body representatives on the council are BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and treasurer Raghuram Bhat. The full seven-member council is rounded out by the BCCI CEO, a nominee from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and a representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA).

The scope of this notification is limited strictly to the IPL Governing Council seats, effectively dismissing speculation regarding potential elections for other board positions. Current office-bearers are expected to continue in their roles without interruption. To facilitate the process, the Electoral Officer has invited all Full Members of the BCCI to submit their designated representatives for inclusion in the Electoral Roll. The deadline for state associations to submit these nominations was August 31, following the start of the process on August 25. After addressing any potential objections, the final Electoral Roll is scheduled for release on September 8.
